Panidihin, July 5: Due to heavy rain the Brahmaputra rose up and panic gripped the villages of Chitolia. The embankment at Chitolia broke down and water rolled over the village, so the people took shelter on their house – tops. Villagers from neighbouring villages rushed to help with rafts and boats. The civil authorities were informed. The affected people were rescued a long with their livestock and shifted to a relief camp.

Anil Nagar, July 16 : Two persons, a man and a woman were drowned in a devastating flood caused by heavy rains in Anil Nagar, Kamrup district, Assam. Panidihing, July 5 : A devastating flood caused due to continuous rain and overflowing of the Brahmaputra occured at the village of Chitolia. The breaching of embankment paniced the people who huddled on to the housetops. Villagers from nearby villages rushed to help the flood affected people. They carried out the rescue operation with the help of rafts and boats. The civil authority opened relief cemp at the nearest high school. Nearly 2000 people were shifted to the relief camp. Damage of property was huge. The government provided relief material and declared Rs.10000/- ex- gration to each flood affected family.

My sixth sense asked me to alert the people of our village as it had been raining incessantly and the embankment was about to breach. Finally, it breached and left the villages face a devastating flood.
